Meet Tank
Tank is four and a half. We’ve had him for just a few months. Tank had a successful racing career, running in 65 races and winning 13 of them. Then he tore his hamstrings, and we were able to rescue him. When we first got him, he was hesitant and anxious. But he’s settled in quickly, learning how to be a pet and not a racer.
Everyone loves Tank – he’s really popular. We’ve been in Belconnen for four years and we didn’t know anyone. But Tank goes out, leans on people, and while he gets lots of pats, we chat. We also meet other Greyhound owners, most of them young like us and living in apartments. We’ve met maybe ten greyhounds in the area.
Since owning Tank, we also get out a lot more. Now we walk around the Lake daily. On weekends, we visit Stella’s by the Lake, where Tank loves meeting other greyhounds – whenever he sees a greyhound his ears prick up and his tail starts going. He also loves golden retrievers. And he gets excited around older people, jumping up and down, super excited! We think maybe an older person took care of Tank when he was a racing dog.
Greyhounds are great for apartment living. They have bursts of energy, then go to sleep and that’s their day. They’re adaptable, come house-trained, and are really beautiful dogs. If you’re considering a rescue dog like Tank, we encourage you to get a greyhound.
